Daily Weather
Maps
Digitized maps of national weather conditions,
beginning in 1871. The earliest maps had only basic
surface observations, and were created by the
U.S. Signal Office as the series War Department
Maps. In 1891, publication was transfered to the new
Weather Bureau, eventually becoming the Daily Weather
Maps series, published weekly. Current maps include
surface pressure analysis, maximum and minimum
temperature, 24-hour precipitation, and upper air
patterns.
