Mark Shafer

Director of Climate Information

 

Mark Shafer has been with OCS since 1990. Mark is involved in long-range planning for the Climate Information Group and supervises several members of the group. Mark is also active in the American Association of State Climatologists, in which he is an associate member. He has been extensively involved in helping the AASC draft a statement of its contributions to a national climate service.

Mark holds an M.S. Degree in Meteorology from the University of Oklahoma and a B.S. Degree in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Illinois. He is presently ABD in a Ph.D. program in Political Science at the University of Oklahoma. Mark's research is in the area of linkages between producers of scientific information and policy applications.

In addition to the management duties in the Climate Information Group, Mark produces a monthly news summary of weather and climate-related news. The summary is distributed to all OCS supervisors, OU Weather Center Directors, and several external sources.
