Mark Shafer Director of Climate Information Mark Shafer has been with OCS since 1990. Mark is
involved in long-range planning for the Climate Information
Group and supervises several members of the group. Mark is
also active in the American Association of State
Climatologists, in which he is an associate member. He has
been extensively involved in helping the AASC draft a
statement of its contributions to a national climate
service. Mark holds an M.S. Degree in Meteorology from the
University of Oklahoma and a B.S. Degree in Atmospheric
Sciences from the University of Illinois. He is presently
ABD in a Ph.D. program in Political Science at the
University of Oklahoma. Mark's research is in the area of
linkages between producers of scientific information and
policy applications. In addition to the management duties in the Climate
Information Group, Mark produces a monthly news summary of
weather and climate-related news. The summary is distributed
to all OCS supervisors, OU Weather Center Directors, and
several external sources. Selected Publications Journal Articles: Shafer, Mark A., Donald R. MacGorman, and Frederick H.
